Adult Jiu Jitsu in Miramar Beach | Duck Under vs. the Guard Pass & Leg Work Rounds
From Coastal Jiu Jitsu
When your partner is passing your guard, there's a moment where you can duck under and take the back. In this adult class at Coastal Jiu Jitsu in Miramar Beach, we finish the month's leg work with the duck under, then run rounds to try it under pressure.
If you want a challenge that keeps you interested and gets you in shape, this is how we take a new idea from drilling into live rounds.
Inside this class
We set up the drill: the passer falls their shoulder into the leg, keeps pressure on, and slides one knee in with one leg up. To attack the back, the chest gets down low. Partners test it with more resistance, then we run rounds where the top player wins by passing and the bottom player wins by sweeping or submitting. Expect to mess it up at first, and that's fine.

Key technical concepts
Turn defense into offense. When your partner is passing, there can be an opening to get behind them.
Drill it, then test it. A new idea is drilled first, then tried with more resistance.
It's okay to mess up. Making mistakes early is part of learning something new.
Why this work matters
Taking a new idea from drilling into live rounds teaches adults to stay patient, try things and learn from what happens. Students learn to make a plan, notice what isn't working, and try another option, and the more experienced partner sets the pace so people at every level can train hard and keep coming back.
This video is also an honest look at a normal day of training here. Nobody is performing for the camera: you see the questions, the corrections, the missed attempts, and the small wins that add up over time. If you've wondered what a class actually feels like before you walk in, this is it. Come try one, ask questions, and see for yourself.
New to Jiu Jitsu?
You don't need any wrestling or Jiu Jitsu background to start. Beginners learn the basics first, drill at a controlled pace, and build up to live training with coaching along the way. Questions are always welcome, and partners look after each other so everyone can keep training.
