Kids Jiu Jitsu in Miramar Beach | Ages 6–8 Americana & Finishing From Mount
From Coastal Jiu Jitsu
Holding a partner down is one skill. Finishing calmly and with control is another. In this kids class for ages 6–8 at Coastal Jiu Jitsu in Miramar Beach, the children work on the Americana and finishing from mount after a month of getting good at pinning.
If your child quits when things get hard, this class shows the other side of that: they try, miss, get a correction, and go again.
Inside this class
Class starts with animal movements: snake crawls, crab walks, gorilla runs, giraffe walks, cartwheels, roundoffs and shots. During stretching the children recite the Five Rules of Engagement.
The lesson is pinning the arm for the Americana with straight arms and hips, keeping the chest heavy and head with head, then a tripod pass with three posts and a choke finish with a gable grip. Rounds follow from mount and back mount, with coaching on matching pressure to a smaller partner. Class closes with a reminder that the more they fail, the more adjustments they make and the better they get.

Key technical concepts
Position before submission. The children learn to hold a good position first, then look for the finish.
Control, not crushing. A bigger child learns to match pressure to a smaller partner and still win with technique.
Missing is part of learning. Every miss is information for the next try.
Why this work matters
Children at this age are learning that not getting something right away isn't failing for good. They try, get a correction, and go again. Every child is coached at their own level, and partners learn to keep each other safe.
Every kids class at Coastal Jiu Jitsu is built around our Five Rules of Engagement:
1. Avoid the fight at all costs.
2. If punched or kicked, defend yourself.
3. If called names, follow the three T steps: talk, tell, tackle.
4. Never punch or kick the bully—establish control and negotiate.
5. When applying submissions, use minimal force and negotiate.
New to Jiu Jitsu?
Your child doesn't need any experience to start. New children learn the basics first through drills and games, with coaching at every step. Classes are grouped by age, so children train with others at a similar stage, and partners are taught to look after each other.
