Adult No-Gi Jiu Jitsu in Miramar Beach | Passing Reverse De La Riva Without Grips

From Coastal Jiu Jitsu

October 26, 2026

Adult No-Gi Jiu Jitsu at Coastal Jiu Jitsu in Miramar Beach, Florida gives adults a place to stay active, learn something challenging, and solve problems while staying calm under pressure. In this no-gi class, students work on getting past the reverse De La Riva guard without the gi grips, using leg work to pass and reach a strong top position.

For busy adults, parents, and professionals, this is a look at how we train. The coach adapts the lesson to the questions students ask, partners drill at a controlled pace, and the class builds into positional rounds and then live rounds with submissions. A visiting training partner from out of state joins in.

Inside this class

The class begins by showing how passing changes in no-gi: without pant and collar grips, neither person can hold on the same way. Students learn how to stay connected, use their legs to get past their partner's legs, and pass to the top.

A student's question leads to a new detail on getting under the knees, and the coach explains how questions help everyone learn more. Positional rounds follow, with the bottom player working to sweep or wrestle up and the top player working to pass or take the back, before the group moves into rounds with submissions.

Key technical concepts

Adjust when the grips change. In no-gi, there are no pants or collars to hold. Both partners have to rely on position, connection, and leg work.

Use your legs to pass. Getting past your partner's legs takes more than your hands. Footwork and leg placement do much of the work.

Ask questions. The coach comes in with a plan, but student questions often lead to new details that help the whole group.

Why this work matters

Training asks adults to stay patient in uncomfortable positions, think through a problem, and try again. Those habits can carry into work, family, and everyday stress.

Students also train with people of different sizes and backgrounds, including visitors, which keeps every round a new problem to solve.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
