Adult Jiu Jitsu in Miramar Beach | Game Plan Strategy: Snap-Downs to the Back

From Coastal Jiu Jitsu

October 26, 2026

Adult Jiu Jitsu at Coastal Jiu Jitsu in Miramar Beach, Florida gives adults a way to train their body and mind together, with a group that pushes each other to get better. This gi class starts a new month-long concept: building your own game plan, so you bring the match to your strengths instead of fighting your opponent's best game.

For busy adults, parents, and professionals, this is an honest look at how we train. The coach reviews what the group learned about leg work and guard passing, then helps each student pick a path to the position where they're most dangerous.

Inside this class

After a short review of passing and breaking guard grips, the coach uses chess as an analogy for strategy. He walks through his own route to the back, then works with each student on their individual plan: snap-downs, arm drags, ankle picks, leg drags, and what to do when a bigger partner keeps their head up.

Students drill their plans with partners, ask questions, and receive one-on-one corrections. The class finishes with a recap of why having a game plan matters and how to practice it this month.

Key technical concepts

Make the match go your way. If your opponent gets to their best position, you're fighting the best version of them. A clear plan helps you reach yours first.

Choose a path that fits you. Strength, speed, and body type all shape which techniques work best. Each student is coached toward their own route to a dominant position.

Sharpen the plan, then fill in the holes. Practice your main plan until it's reliable, then use the rest of your training time to work on weaker areas.

Why this work matters

Having a plan, testing it, and adjusting when it doesn't work is a skill that carries well beyond the mat. During drilling, the coach points out how much easier it is to see someone's mistakes from the outside, and why it's valuable to have people around you who will help you correct them.

That's the kind of community we work to build: people who train hard, help each other improve, and keep each other safe.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
