Saturday Open Mat in Miramar Beach | Triangles, Clearing Frames & Free Rolling

From Coastal Jiu Jitsu

October 29, 2026

Saturday Open Mat is where you get to work on whatever you've been stuck on. At Coastal Jiu Jitsu in Miramar Beach, it's relaxed and friendly, and families are on the mat together.

If you've been looking for a fun, low-pressure way to get moving on the weekend, this is what an open mat looks like.

What happens at open mat

This video isn't a structured class. It's free rolling with quick coaching along the way: going belly down to adjust a triangle, taking your time instead of rushing on cardio, and building a top attack depending on how many frames your partner has. Clear one frame and look for the key lock or triangle, clear both and take mount, and if you can't clear any, circle to north-south. There's also a good reminder: know a little about a lot of techniques, and a lot about one.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
