Kids Jiu Jitsu in Miramar Beach | Ages 3–5 Animal Moves, Turtle Control & Focus
From Coastal Jiu Jitsu
Little kids learn best through play. In this kids class for ages 3–5 at Coastal Jiu Jitsu in Miramar Beach, the children do frog jumps and animal movements, practice holding a partner down from side mount, and play turtle games that teach control.
If your child has a lot of energy and struggles to focus, this class shows how we channel it, and how we help them work through frustration.
Inside this class
Warm-ups include frog jumps and hopping drills, then rolling over a partner and learning why one child ended up on top. The coach praises a child for working through frustration and for great focus.
The children practice the guard monster and holding a partner down from side mount with crocodile control and strong feet. In the turtle game, one child stays a turtle while the other tries to tip them over, using their hands and making adjustments to keep control. Then they get in a wrestling stance and practice a snap down, play a ball game, and finish with breakfalls. When a child gets upset, the coach gives them space to breathe before coming back.

Learn through play. Games teach young children balance, control and coordination.
Hold with Crocodile Control. Strong feet and a heavy body help a child stay on top.
Take a breath. When frustration comes, a short break helps them come back ready.
Why this work matters
Young children learn to listen, take turns and work through frustration while having fun. Every child is coached at their own level, and partners learn to keep each other safe.
Every kids class at Coastal Jiu Jitsu is built around our Five Rules of Engagement:
1. Avoid the fight at all costs.
2. If punched or kicked, defend yourself.
3. If called names, follow the three T steps: talk, tell, tackle.
4. Never punch or kick the bully—establish control and negotiate.
5. When applying submissions, use minimal force and negotiate.
New to Jiu Jitsu?
Your child doesn't need any experience to start. New children learn the basics first through drills and games, with coaching at every step. Classes are grouped by age, so children train with others at a similar stage, and partners are taught to look after each other.
