Kids Jiu Jitsu in Miramar Beach | Ages 6–8 Frames, Lego Hands & the Guard Phases
From Coastal Jiu Jitsu
Losing is okay as long as you give your best effort. In this kids class for ages 6–8 at Coastal Jiu Jitsu in Miramar Beach, the children work on frames, Lego hands and the four phases of the guard, and learn that being a good teammate matters too.
If your child is shy or afraid to fail, this class shows the encouragement we give every step of the way.
Inside this class
Warm-ups include snake crawls, crab walks, breakfalls and round outs. During stretching the children recite Rule Number Four together: never punch or kick the bully, establish control and negotiate.
The lesson covers Lego hands on the knees so a partner can't push you around, feet on different levels, and hopping and turning to follow a passer. Then the guard phases: know the guards, establish a guard with four points of control, off-balance to hands or hips, and attack by coming on top. The children learn that if someone gets past your feet and knees the match is over, and that's okay with your best effort. They also learn "position before submission."

Why this work matters
Encouragement at every step helps shy children and children afraid to fail keep trying. Every child is coached at their own level, and partners learn to keep each other safe.
Every kids class at Coastal Jiu Jitsu is built around our Five Rules of Engagement:
1. Avoid the fight at all costs.
2. If punched or kicked, defend yourself.
3. If called names, follow the three T steps: talk, tell, tackle.
4. Never punch or kick the bully—establish control and negotiate.
5. When applying submissions, use minimal force and negotiate.
New to Jiu Jitsu?
Your child doesn't need any experience to start. New children learn the basics first through drills and games, with coaching at every step. Classes are grouped by age, so children train with others at a similar stage, and partners are taught to look after each other.
