3 UNSAFE BJJ MOVES KIDS MUST AVOID - COMMUNITY - DARUMA DOJO FT PROFESSOR ALBERTO - BJJ - 10072026

Training hard is important. Training safely is essential.

In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, every student has a responsibility to protect themselves and their training partners, especially in our Kids BJJ classes.

In this Community episode, Professor Alberto demonstrates three unsafe movements that students should avoid during training.

1. Bear Crawling Inside Closed Guard

Driving forward while an opponent has closed guard can place excessive pressure on their neck, creating an unnecessary risk of injury.

2. The Boston Crab from Closed Guard

This movement can place dangerous pressure on the spine and neck. It has no place in our Kids BJJ training.

3. Pulling an Opponent Straight Back from Back Mount

Pulling a training partner directly backward from back mount can place excessive pressure on the middle of their back and create a risk of spinal injury.

Understanding why these movements are unsafe is an important part of developing good training habits.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu teaches students how to control another person, but that control must always be accompanied by responsibility, awareness and respect for their training partners.

At Daruma Dojo, we want our young practitioners to challenge themselves, develop confidence and improve their technical abilities in an environment where everyone can train safely.

Jiu-Jitsu is an individual sport, but it takes a team for us to grow.

Train hard. Take care of your partners. Train safe.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
