Selling your soul in Jiu Jitsu

Selling your soul in Jiu Jitsu

From Gracie Allegiance Texas

May 6, 2026

True Jiu Jitsu is about the development of character, yet over my 40 years in the mats, I have watched far too many people trade their dignity and soul for the temporary high of money, fame, or control.

When you put a price tag on your integrity, you aren't just selling your skills, you are bankrupting your legacy and losing the respect of those who truly understand the path.

Real success isn't found in a bank account or a hollow title; it’s found in the peace of mind that comes from standing for something greater than yourself.

Always choose purpose over profit and character over convenience, because once you sell your soul, there is no amount of money that can buy it back. Oss! πŸ’―

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere β€” but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it β€” every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
