Movement Series Ep02: Hip Hinge / Technical Get Up / Switch Step

From Leicester Shootfighters

May 13, 2020

Welcome to our new movement series. Each episode will feature 3 movements; one each from S&C/FMS, grappling and striking.

These are fundamental movement patterns that underlie combat sports techniques and athletic activities. We have used these movements as coaches working with others and to improve our own practice.

We often find new members struggle to replicate what they see others do. It's common to feel off balance, uncoordinated or weak with an inability to make your body do what you want it too. Taking time to learn fundamental movement patterns is the path to improving control of your body. Aim for fluidity and control rather than speed and explosion, be mindful of controlling your body throughout all parts of these movements.

Find some space and have a go!

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
