The Three Ingredients In All Armbars #bjj #jiujitsu #bjjtechnique #armbar #grappling

From Spectrum Jiu Jitsu Sports Combat

Every successful armbar I hit comes back to the same 3 ingredients:

1) Connecting my hips to the shoulder and covering the head

2) Separating the hands to isolate the arm I'm attacking

3) Putting something behind the elbow and extending the arm

Here are a few competition examples showing those concepts in action. See if you can spot the 3 ingredients in each example!

To improve your armbars, try to focus on solving these core tasks in sparring. The more consistently you can create these conditions, the more reliable your armbars become.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
