The Guildford Posse – Then and Now
Back in the 90s and early 2000s, we were known as the Guildford Posse.
We weren’t just doormen — we were a unit. An army. Fiercely loyal and not the sort of people you wanted to cross. The nights were unpredictable. The atmosphere could shift in seconds. Calm one minute… chaos the next.
And the violence back then was real — raw and unforgiving.
Guns. Knives. Bottles. Glasses. Chains. Crowbars. Knuckledusters.
Everything and anything that could be used as a weapon… was.
We stood in the middle of that storm night after night.
But what people didn’t always see was the code. The loyalty. The brotherhood — and sisterhood. We protected each other. We walked into danger together and walked out together. That bond was unbreakable.
This song was written by the boss’s wife — and she wasn’t just standing on the sidelines. She did her time on the doors with us. She saw it firsthand. The madness. The risk. The adrenaline. The laughter after surviving another night. So when she wrote this, she wrote it from lived experience — from inside the storm.
But my story didn’t start on the doors.
I grew up a foreigner. First generation.
On a violent council estate where strength meant survival — and violence was often the only answer anyone respected.
The people you looked up to were drug dealers or hard men with reputations built on fear. That was the blueprint. That was the example. And when that’s all you see growing up, it shapes what you believe a man is supposed to be.
So I followed the path that was laid out in front of me.
I was involved in the criminal world. Criminality was normal. It wasn’t glamorous — even though some people today like to dress it up and call it “gangster.” Back then, we didn’t think about image or status. There was no brand to protect, no persona to perform.
We just did what we believed we had to do.
And it ended the way those roads usually end.
I became the very thing I grew up around — violent and unpredictable. I made choices that led me into prison.
There was a time I was told I was angry.
Quick to react. Ready for anything.
And sometimes I went too far.
Sometimes the violence in me burned so hot that people looked at me like I was crazy — like I’d crossed into something darker.
I believed strength meant being better than the next man.
That if people feared you, they respected you.
I carried that mindset like armour.
I was willing to do whatever it took.
Take things to whatever level they needed to go.
No hesitation. No backing down.
That was who I was.
But I understand now — that wasn’t strength.
That was survival instinct, anger, and ego wrapped up as power.
Life has a way of teaching you what real strength is.
It isn’t intimidation.
It isn’t violence.
It isn’t who can go further or hit harder.
It’s control.
It’s responsibility.
It’s breaking the cycle instead of continuing it.
Sometimes I look back with pride. Sometimes with disbelief. And yes — sometimes I miss that fire, that intensity, that feeling of being untouchable.
If I’m honest, there are moments even now when I feel it rise up. When I see certain behaviours and the old instinct whispers that force is the answer. That voice still exists. It probably always will.
But here’s the difference.
I don’t answer it.
Because real strength isn’t unleashing wrath.
It’s having it — and choosing control instead.
The fire is still there.
It just burns differently now.
It protects my family.
It fuels my discipline.
It reminds me who I was — and why I refuse to go back.
Family changed me.
Becoming a father changed me.
Love softened the edges that years of survival had hardened.
The real victory wasn’t winning fights.
It was choosing a different future.
The Guildford Posse was a chapter — wild, loyal, unforgettable. It shaped us. It bonded us. It tested us.
But it didn’t define the rest of our lives.
To my brothers — and our sister — who stood shoulder to shoulder through it all…
Respect. Always.
We were something else back then.
And the greatest proof of who we are now
is that we survived it…
and we changed.
Real strength isn’t in the damage you can cause… it’s in the damage you choose not to.
