Headquarters Passing I Smash Pass & Backstep

Headquarters Passing I Smash Pass & Backstep

From The Lair

April 9, 2026

Add this dilemma to your passing game and destroy those butt scooters.
Headquarters works great as a transition from split squat if their knee shield is too strong to get past.
First, we want to understand our body positioning and how to make sure we keep good pressure.
From HQ we can work on pressuring the knees together or opening the knee and dropping inside to land chest to chest. Depending on what we do with the knee shield, we can then look for our smash pass or backstep.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
