Episode 3 - Simon Hayes

From The Raspberry Ape Podcast

June 18, 2016 · 3:35:04

This episode I sit down with BMX champion, life long martial artist, judo black belt, jiu jitsu black belt, Carlson Gracie London instructor, bulldog owner and Oscar award winning sound engineer Simon Hayes.

In an epic 3 and a half hour conversation we talk about his history in sport and martial arts, how he found BJJ, the birth of jiu jitsu in the UK, training on set with the likes of Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham, the creation of his famous smash pass and even the history of bulldogs.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
