Mini Ep. 76: Knee Line

Mini Ep. 76: Knee Line

BJJ Mental Models

In this week's mini-episode, we discuss the concept of the **knee line:** an imaginary line connecting your two knees. When the two points of this line combine with your groin, these three points create a triangle. That triangle is the basis for how we use our legs to clamp or wedge our opponent in place. **To clamp or wedge their body part in place with your knees, it should be*inside*your knee+knee+groin triangle. To prevent them from doing the same to you, your body part should be*outside*their knee+knee+groin triangle.** Get our Intro to Mechanics audio course, normally $79, FREE: [https://bjjmentalmodels.com/freeintro](https://bjjmentalmodels.com/freeintro) **Don't forget to check out BJJ Mental Models Premium!** If you love the podcast, you'll definitely love our premium membership offerings. Wrestling for BJJ | Timing the Snapdown #highnoonbjj

In this video, Coach Tim shows how you can use the Snapdown to counter an opponent who insists on connecting with a heavy post or collar tie while driving forward. Additionally, if the snap is executed right as the opponent tries to plant their forward foot, the result is often an EXTREME off balance.

Concepts and Principles | Defending the Back

During last week's Sunday Session, one of our main focal points was defending against back control. At High Noon, we believe that the back can and SHOULD be defended by following a few key principles. First, we absolutely refuse to allow our hips to remain immobile and pointed towards the ceiling. Keeping the hips active and oriented either towards the floor or parallel to it allow the defender to maximize their mobility and explosive potential while they search for a secure exit or viable counterattack. Second, the defender should CONSTANTLY interfere with the attacker's head and hands as they search for an escape route. This limits the attacker's ability to keep chest to back contact and allows the defender to stay in motion while they search for an escape/counter. Finally, we believe the defender should always be willing to either sit out or stand up to increase their own mobility while simultaneously making it more difficult for the attacker to potentially stabilize the position. Overall, we are prioritizing hip mobility, upper body interference, and hip height above all else as we seek to clear attempts to control our back. Thank you to the athletes in the video for providing fine examples of the above concepts. ⚔️ Featured Athletes: @sulcbo @diallobjj @alexbelaoula55 @cam_x_hurd @pach_iiiiii #highnoonbjj #defendingtheback #sundaysessions

Sunday Sessions | Stopping Inversions - Part Two

Continuing from the last video, we talk a bit about dealing with reverse De La Riva - a common, effective inversion mechanism from the guard. If we fail to address it early, the guard player can create opportunities to off-balance the passer, entangle the legs, and even expose the back. Here we briefly demonstrate framing at the hip to prevent the guard player from rotating underneath and note that a careful study of pressure application can be helpful both in maintaining our base while passing and limiting the guard player's offensive opportunity. P.S. Is my uke slightly impaired here or not? 🤔 You be the judge 😂 #highnoonbjj #sundaysessions #reversedelariva #base

Sunday Sessions | Stopping Inversions - Part One

During last week's Sunday Session, I got a great question about dealing with an opponent who wants to invert underneath the hips to off-balance or expose the legs for attack. This led us into a solid discussion on stopping inversion preemptively and dealing with "scoop" grips. My goal in sharing this is not only to share useful knowledge but to hopefully provide a more real alternative to the plethora of sanitized, highly choreographed content out in the wild. Stay tuned for part two, where we chat about shutting down reverse De La Riva as well. ⚔️ P.S. Devin Booker has the prettiest jump shot in the NBA. During our Sunday Sessions, we start standing and warm up with some focused neutral work. This part of training starts live but low pace and builds in intensity until we're ready for more challenging sparring. Our major focal points in this session were clearing ties, chain attacks, misdirection, and counter wrestling. ⚔️ 🎵: Adrian Berengeur - Timelapse #highnoonbjj #wrestling #sundaysessions
