Do you train with Big Game Energy? Do you Push yourself to bring Intensity to your training? Whether you are lifting or rolling, working with greater intensity has hidden benefits that people are missing out on. For greater Muscle Gains, greater gas tank for rolling and better overall work capacity you must have planned phases of pushing yourself in the name breaking plateaus: 1.) Is Jiu-Jitsu your Therapy? The world is a better place after a good hard roll. There are so many layers as to why we become addicted to this crazy thing and why it is so unique. The connection between training partners, the shared struggles, the trust and the mutual understanding that people outside Jiu-Jitsu just don't understand. Deep Bonds are formed and the journey is a shared adventure, which is the antidote to modern societies isolation and lack of community. Mental health, anxiety and depression make us feel dislocated and alone. Office work, zoom calls, drowning in emails and bills it's hard to feel happy. You go to BJJ class, meet new people, strangle them, get pummelled and then go for a meal after. The connections you make help to balance the ups & downs life throws at you.

Were you bullied at school? Did you get beaten up or abused? JT was a nerdy, chubby and un-athletic kid. All he wanted to do was fit in and make friends. Unfortunately it doesn't always work out and kids can be cruel. Starting in Ballet and then moving to gymnastics was a mixed blessing, dooming him to ridicule but setting him up for being very flexible. Being over weight, unfit and uncool made JT an easy target! Until he decided at age 10 to start doing self defence at his local TaeKwonDo school. A moment occurred that changed his life forever and put him on the Martial Arts path helping him become who he is today. This is the origin story of why JT is so passionate about learning to fight and why he gets so fired up!
Have you heard the phrase "Don't use Strength, use Technique." There is an underlying philosophy in BJJ culture that being strong holds you back from learning Jiu-Jitsu technique, there is a type of strength shaming that goes on. We all know that being more athletic helps us when rolling but the idea that technique trumps strength has been overstated and the boys breakdown why: 1.) The Technique beats Strength Myth 2.) Why don't lightweights win the Absolute? 3.) Strength is the Technique Multiplier 4.) When a Cue becomes Dogma 5.) No Strength = No Options The idea that being strong holds you back in BJJ is not a helpful way to look at the game. Developing strength in parallel with learning BJJ technique is the ultimate way to get better on the mat.
How can you get your family and Friends to relate to your love of BJJ? We all struggle on the mats every week but if you don't roll- you don't get it, IYKYK. The boys received a voice mail from Stephanie Alvarez overcoming the odds to win her last tournament in weight and absolute. She just can't get her closest people to relate. Israel Adesanya, Alex Volkanovski, Logan Paul & Craig Jones all training together what does this mean for the fight game? Are we witnessing the Rise of the Fight Game Entrepreneur and the next business moguls.
Do you train Jiu-jitsu for Self Defence? Or are you training for sport and don't care about fighting? The debate of Jiu-Jitsu for real life fighting being superior, compared to Training BJJ for modern athletes being impractical. JT & Joey unpack the difference between " McDojo" level nonsense and real military training for being harder to kill. The other element is the evolution of modern Sports BJJ and that it is far more practical for real life fighting than it was 20 years ago. The rise of submission grappling, wrestling and focus on finishing has changed how practical sport BJJ is for a real combat situation. The question of what training is more effective if you are attacked gets thoroughly discussed, but which side are you on?
Question Time: Is before class the best time to use a massage gun? What is the best time of day to do your mobility vs when is best to stretch? Which is the best therapist for a BJJ Body- Chiro, Physio, Osteo or Massage therapist? Last but not least are the detailed points on how to get into the Hanging cobra position if you struggle with mobility through upper and lower back.
If BJJ was a language the current approach of simple of Immersion for learning is wrong. Jumping into a room of beginners, intermediates and experts without a good process for retaining the info dooms you to very slow progress. The best learners of any subject matter have both practical and theoretical ways to help them understand their chosen body of knowledge and have a system to shorten up their learning loops for faster adaptations. This enables them to achieve a level of mastery many times faster than their peers. JT & Joey discuss: 1.) Why Immersion doesn't work for everyone 2.) Primacy & Recency - Why you don't remember? 3.) What is your Learning Loop- Record your rolls! 4.) Software Engineering and Fixing BJJ Mistakes 5.) Your Mental High-Light Reel, ain't For Real. If you have trained for a while but really struggle to progress and remember techniques then you need to ask yourself- "Do you have a good process for remembering, analysing and reflecting on what you do when you train?" If you are not sure what to do, this is the episode for you.
Do you train for the love of the game? Or push yourself to win Championships? How you choose to approach your BJJ is a very individual thing. What defines a Hobbyist? Are you only a Competitor if you compete at tournaments or fight to the death in the Gym? It is important to appreciate the difference between the 2 approaches and get clear on the upside and Draw backs of each: 1.) Expectations vs Results 2.) Awkward Rolls & Misunderstandings 3.) Winning vs Learning- What's better? 4.) Being Serious or Being Strategic 5.) Martial Arts vs Sports Performance Whether you are training everyday focused on the next comp or just get your rolls in where you can, there is value in both approaches and ultimately you can benefit by borrowing from the other.

Craig Jones is coming out of retirement to face off against Filipe Pena officially on UFC Fight Pass! Could this set up a potential super fight between Craig and Gordon? Alex Volkanovski vs Yair Rodriguez promises to be an exciting title fight but can the dynamic challenger steal the crown from the Pound for Pound champ? It's that time of the year for the IBJJF World Championship and Bulletproof have some hot Blackbelt favourites- Levi Leary Jones, Adele Fornarino and Nikki Loyd Griffiths. Will Australia see it's first Blackbelt World Champion? Lastly YouTube is censoring the Boys! Too much cursing has caused the platform to limit the ability for the channel to earn.
