Beginners and Intermidiate:  Maddision style brackets - round-robin | EBI rule set

M*adison-style submission grappling is a relaxed, athlete-friendly format that pairs competitors by actual weigh-in weight on the day. Competitors are grouped according to weight into round-robin pools with five people in each pool. Competitors can get up to 4 matches per pool.*

Madision brackets - backets will be designed based on your current weight. Verification will be performed on the day and may result in a change of bracket.

Absolutes - Please provide your expected weight on the day of the fight. Weigh in will take place between 8:00 and 8:30 on the day of the competition.

Matches start at 8:30 with the Beginners Madision brackets

This competition occurs during the Winter Warrior Weekend running from 22 to 24 May 2026.

Modifed EBI rule set applies.

- Rounds will be 5 min long

- The round is won by the first submission. If no submission is achieved the win will be awarded to the contestant with the highest number of threatening submissions attempted - as adjudicated by the match referee.

- A win is worth 2 points. Bracket winner will be the competitor with the highest number of points. In the event of a tie, the winner will be the competitor who won the individiual match.

- Illegal techniques: heel hooks, aoki lock, estima lock, reverse toe holds, reaping, spine locks (twister), neck cranks (can opener), full nelson

- Illegal actions: spiking, sticking, eye gouging, ear grapping, hair pulling, scratching, pinching, punching, kicking, biting, holding of clothing, scissor takedowns, jumping guard, suplex takedowns, slamming

Rounds will be 8 minutes long.

- Round is won by first submission. If no submission is achieved the round will go to overtime. By coin flip, the winner can pick to start with spiderweb (armbar with attacker at top) or back control with both hooks. The looser picks whether they attack or defend first.  Each athlete gets a chance to attack with a 2 min time limit. Only the back, spiderweb and truck are considered active. Loosing hooks or transitioning between these is allowed, but dropping to side control or mount ends the turn. The athlete with the fastest submisison time wins. If no submission is achieved, the fastest aexpce time determines the winner.

- Illegal techniques:  neck cranks (can opener), full nelson

- Illegal actions: spiking, sticking, eye gouging, ear grapping, hair pulling, scratching, pinching, punching, kicking, holding of clothing, scissor takedowns, slamming, suplex takedowns landing on head/neck
