Global Martial Arts Academy is a family-owned martial arts school in Hamilton, Ontario, offering a diverse range of internationally recognized programs including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Wado-Kai Karate, Kickboxing, Jeet Kune Do, and Filipino Martial Arts (Kali). The academy opened in 2005 in Binbrook and moved to its current location on the Hamilton escarpment in 2009. The school is built on the principles of respect, courtesy, and discipline, creating a family-oriented environment for students of all ages and experience levels. GMA offers programs for children as young as 5 years old through adult classes, with a strong focus on reality-based training that prepares students for real-world self-defense situations. The academy is led by Sensei Ron Yeates, who opened his first school, Southam Wado-Ryu Karate, in 1972. With over 50 years of martial arts experience and 31 years as a Hamilton Police Officer, Sensei Ron brings practical, street-tested knowledge to his teaching. His son, Daniel Yeates, serves as an instructor, known for his exceptional ability to break down complex movements and transfer critical skills quickly to students. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program is taught by Prof. P.J. O'Sullivan (Paul Joseph O'Sullivan), offering classes for youth (ages 10-15) and adults (16+), as well as private lessons.
