BJJ Vaasa is a combat sports club founded in July 2008 to promote the recreational and competitive activities of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and submission wrestling in Vaasa, Finland. The gym is a member of the Finnish Brazilian Jiujitsu Federation (SBJJ) and the ADCC Finland Submission Wrestling Federation, providing a structured and professional training environment for practitioners of all levels. As a proud member of the Scandinavian Hilti Brazilian Jiujitsu organization, BJJ Vaasa is part of an international network of high-quality BJJ academies. The gym offers training in both Gi (traditional kimono) and No-Gi Brazilian Jiu-jitsu, as well as submission wrestling. The training emphasizes leverage-based techniques including joint locks, chokes, sweeps, and throws, with a focus on both recreational fitness and competitive preparation. The gym is led by head instructor Petri Mäki, a 3rd degree black belt with extensive experience in both Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and submission wrestling. The instruction team includes multiple black belts (Tommy Vähänen - 1st degree, Olli Kapiainen, and Toni Sorvari) as well as brown belt Jaakko Töyli, ensuring students receive expert guidance across all skill levels from foundations to competition preparation.
