Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has its roots in Judo and traditional Ju Jutsu. In short, Mitsuyo Maeda taught Judo and traditional Ju Jutsu to the Gracie family in Brazil. The Gracie family adapted parts of Judo and Ju Jutsu to their reality. Thus, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was born. Competitions were held in Brazil, and BJJ spread beyond the country's borders. It was after the first style-versus-style tournament called UFC that BJJ dominated and became world-famous. The main focus in BJJ is throws, grips, positions, timing, control grips and strategy. In other words, you can stop an attacker without throwing a single punch! Whether it is in a self-defense situation or in an MMA fight, it is extremely important to be able to end or control a fight on the ground, which is what BJJ offers. It is a sport that is suitable for everyone. One of the basic ideas in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is that you should adapt the techniques to you. Specifically, the training will consist of fall techniques, releases from holds, takedowns, lock-downs and defending yourself on the ground. The training is designed in such a way that everyone can participate and benefit. Regardless of your skills and physique, you will quickly notice that you are getting in better shape with fun training. Great emphasis is placed on free fighting and sparring, also called “rolling”. This is done to ensure that the athletes are also able to perform practiced techniques on an opposing training partner, as well as to neutralize the opponent's attacks. Novus Academy has one of the best black belters in the Nordic region as the main instructor in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, also known as BJJ. The club ensures that a high standard is always maintained within BJJ and brings in guest instructors to hold seminars. Our goal is to offer the highest standard in Norway in terms of developing and promoting talent for both male and female athletes.
