Brazilian Top Team Melbourne is the first BTT affiliate in Florida, established in 2005 by Edgard Dutra, a dedicated black belt who was captivated by BTT's excellence and impact on the martial arts world. BTT is a global icon in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and mixed martial arts (MMA), founded in April 2000 in Rio de Janeiro by Murilo Bustamante, Ricardo Libório, Mário Sperry, and Luis Roberto Duarte. Born from the Carlson Gracie tradition, BTT has produced standout champions including Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira and Antônio Rogério Nogueira (the Nogueira Brothers), Vitor Belfort, and Murilo Bustamante. Under Edgard Dutra's leadership, BTT Melbourne has become a center of excellence, offering world-class training while maintaining the high standards BTT is known for globally. The academy provides a welcoming environment and programs tailored for beginners and elite athletes alike, with classes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (Gi and No-Gi), Muay Thai, MMA, and Judo. Special programs are available for children (including Little Ninjas for ages 3-5), teenagers, and adults, with dedicated women's classes as well. The head instructor, Edgard Dutra, is a 5th-degree black belt under Austregesilo Reis and Cassio Werneck with expertise in advanced grappling, submissions, and strategic coaching for competitions. The team also includes Diego Diniz, a 4th-degree black belt and Muay Thai expert with over 24 years of experience and multiple IBJJF championship wins; Josh Taylor, focused on building strong technical foundations; Kleber Gonçalves, a black belt in both Judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu; and Neil Hamilton, bringing 18 years of BJJ experience and a law enforcement background. BTT Melbourne students have earned medals in local and international tournaments, including the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship and ADCC. Note: Brazilian Top Team Melbourne is now part of the Control JiuJitsu family, with all classes held at the new location at 2447 N Wickham Rd, Suite 112, Melbourne, FL 32935 (southeast corner of the LA Fitness Plaza). As Team Leader for Federal Air Marshal training post-9/11, Burke contracted with United States Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg, NC, bringing elite-level tactical training expertise to the Orlando martial arts community.
