Head Instructor, Kayle Quinn, is a fifth degree black belt who has trained under Grand Master Relson Gracie for over 25 years. Relson is the 2nd oldest son of Grandmaster Helio Gracie, the creator of Gracie Jiu Jitsu. Starting his training at age 2 and winning his first tournament at age 10, Relson earned the nickname "Campeo" meaning Champion. He taught for many years at the Gracie Academy in Rio De Janeiro before moving to Honolulu to share his family's art with the people of Hawaii. He established the Relson Gracie Academy in 1988 where many prominent jiu jitsu students trained under him, some of whom opened their own academies under the Gracie Association to carry on the legacy of Gracie Jiu Jitsu. In 2013 Relson was awarded the title of Grandmaster as a 9th degree red belt, the highest rank attainable in Gracie Jiu Jitsu. HNL's curriculum is grounded in the Gracie Jiu Jitsu style, but also incorporates modern, cutting-edge techniques which allows us to provide a holistic, dynamic training program to all of our students.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
