How to Get Mount, Keep Mount & Finish | BJJ Mount System

From 10th Planet Colorado Springs

Getting to mount is only useful if you can keep it.

In this lesson, Coach breaks down a complete mount system—from entering the position and dealing with a trapped leg to maintaining control and transitioning into submissions.

The class starts with several ways to establish mount, including what to do when the opponent catches or traps your leg during the transition.

From there, Coach covers the details that make mount difficult to escape: controlling the hips, adjusting your weight, reacting to movement, and progressing to stronger attacking positions.

Covered in this video:

• Different ways to enter mount
• What to do when your leg gets trapped
• Clearing the trapped leg
• Establishing a stable mount
• Maintaining mount as the opponent escapes
• Adjusting pressure and position
• Moving into S-Mount
• Submission options from mount
• Head-and-arm triangle / Kata Gatame
• Connecting control to the finish

The goal isn't simply to reach mount—it's to build a position you can maintain and progressively attack from.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
