The Wrestling Secret Most BJJ Players Get Wrong (Linus Schrenk)
From Bernardo Faria BJJ Fanatics
Most BJJ players try to learn wrestling by memorizing one move at a time, but they skip the core principles that actually make takedowns work. In this video, Linus Schrenk shares the foundational concepts that changed his wrestling game and made him one of the most exciting young grapplers coming out of Germany.
Linus breaks down head position, the single most important concept in wrestling for jiu-jitsu. He shows how keeping your forehead between your opponent's forehead and hips makes it nearly impossible to get your leg attacked, and how the same idea defends single legs, body locks, and almost every takedown attempt you will face. He also reminds us why posture matters: a rounded neck makes you weak, but a strong back keeps you nasty in every exchange.
Then Linus dives into base, something his coach Dima Murovanni says is his biggest strength. He explains the mentality of staying on top once you get there, and how dropping your weight and hips low, both on the ground and standing, makes you so much harder to move or take down. If you are a jiu-jitsu player trying to add real wrestling to your game, these are the principles to build on first.
Linus is a student of Dima Murovanni and has his first instructional coming very soon to BJJ Fanatics. If you want to improve your takedowns starting from a jiu-jitsu base, this one is for you.
