Ep. 200: Losing Your Passion, feat. Claudia do Val

From BJJ Mental Models

October 10, 2022 · 58:19 · E200

Episode 200 is a very special milestone, and requires a very special guest: Claudia do Val!

Claudia is a 3x black belt world champion and is considered one of the best of her generation. If you follow Claudia's story, you probably know she went public two years ago with a very personal and traumatic story. That trauma, combined with the harassment she's received since, has completely changed her relationship with Jiu-Jitsu.

In this episode, Claudia speaks about what she's experienced over the last two years, how she has lost her passion for what was once her obsession, and how we can improve the sport so others don't have to go through what she went through.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
