BJJ Speed Drills for Competition Prep | Guard Passing Conditioning Training

Speed drills are one of my go-to methods for sharpening timing, coordination, and conditioning — especially as competition gets closer.

In this session, I’m using a structured speed drill format that I learned and refined during training camps in the US with Lucas Leite at Checkmat Jiu-Jitsu.

🥋 How the speed drill works:

• Choose 3–7 drills (guard passing, guard work, turtle, etc.)
• Each drill is done for 1 minute, max reps

⏱️ Round 1 – Interval Style

• 1 min ON / 1 min OFF (partner goes)
• Complete all drills
→ Builds speed, coordination, and recovery

🔥 Round 2 – Continuous Work

• All drills back-to-back
• 1 min per drill, non-stop
• Partner rests, then switches

This structure keeps the intensity high while mimicking the pace and fatigue of real matches. After this block, we move straight into live rounds.

If you’re preparing for competition or want to add smart conditioning to your training, this is an effective format to include in your sessions.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
