FROM A SMALL STORE TO A BUSINESS EMPIRE ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น

From CMJJ Headquarters

October 30, 2026

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น How did a small Italian convenience store grow into a major wholesale business in Australia?

Entrepreneur Lui Monforte shares the incredible story of his grandfather's immigrant business journey and the family legacy that shaped his own success.

On Coffee Time with Carlos Machado, Lui explains how his grandfather recognized that Italian and Greek immigrants in Australia couldn't easily find the foods they loved from home.

What started as a small convenience store selling imported olives, pasta, and Italian groceries eventually became one of the largest privately owned import and wholesale businesses in their state.

As a third-generation family business member, Lui began working at just 11 years old, making deliveries, visiting warehouses, and learning firsthand what it takes to run a successful business.

Today, Lui and his wife Angie are the entrepreneurs behind The Aussie Grind in North Texas.

This is a story about immigrant entrepreneurship, family business, hard work, and why real-world experience can be one of life's greatest teachers.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere โ€” but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it โ€” every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
