DARUMA DOJO TECHNIQUE TUESDAY - SHOULDER LOCK FROM ARM BAR - BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU - SUBMISSION

From Daruma Dojo

July 21, 2026

One of the biggest lessons in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is learning not to force a submission.

A skilled opponent will defend your first attack. That's expected.

The difference between a good grappler and a great one is the ability to recognize those defensive reactions and transition seamlessly into the next opportunity.

Every submission creates another opening. An armbar becomes a shoulder lock. A shoulder lock becomes a bicep slicer. The techniques are different, but the concept is the same: stay one step ahead.

Jiu-Jitsu isn't about memorizing moves. It's about understanding connections.

The more connected your attacks become, the more difficult you are to defend.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
