ASK A BLACK BELT - HABITS

From Daruma Dojo

July 27, 2026

Longevity in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu isn't determined by how hard you train. It's determined by how consistently you prepare your body to train again tomorrow.

The athletes who stay on the mats for decades understand that recovery is part of training. Mobility, strength development, joint stability, tissue quality, and movement efficiency all contribute to a body that can tolerate the demands of live grappling.

Prehabilitation isn't something you do after an injury. It's an investment in your ability to continue learning, competing and training without interruption.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
