Brazilian Jiu Jitsu submissions are earned through positional control.

Before chasing the finish, learn how to maintain side control or back control against an opponent who is actively trying to escape. Pin maintenance develops your understanding of weight distribution, pressure and control points while teaching you how to anticipate movement.

Control removes the escape. The submission follows.
