Distance is one of the most important elements of self-defense.
Creating and maintaining space gives you more time to recognize what is happening, protect yourself and make decisions before someone is able to establish control.
If you’re forced to the ground, that principle doesn’t disappear. Your hands, legs and body position can help create barriers between you and an attacker, manage their ability to close the distance and create opportunities to safely disengage.
The goal isn’t to stay in the confrontation.
Create space. Maintain control of the distance. Look for the opportunity to get away.
Women’s Self-Defense at Daruma Dojo focuses on practical skills designed to help build awareness, confidence and the ability to respond under pressure.
