Women’s self-defense requires understanding situations that extend beyond traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training.
On the mats, we train within a ruleset designed to safely practice grappling. In a self-defense situation, those rules may not exist. Strikes, including elbows, can become part of creating a defensive response when physical confrontation cannot be avoided.
That changes how we think about distance, positioning and control.
The objective isn’t to exchange strikes or stay engaged longer than necessary. It’s to protect yourself, create an opportunity to disengage and get to safety.
Training self-defense means understanding both the tools Jiu-Jitsu gives you and how those tools may need to adapt when the situation is no longer just grappling.
