Locking The Triangle Choke While Attempting an Omoplata #jiujitsu #trianglechoke #omoplata

From Diamondback Jiu-Jitsu

September 17, 2026

You attack your opponent with an omoplata from guard, but they turn back into you to defend themselves, what do you do? Your opponent's defense may give you exactly what you need to transition into a triangle choke.

Professor Matthew Jones breaks down how to connect these two attacks from guard. He shows how your opponent’s reaction to the omoplata can create the opening for the triangle, then demonstrates important finishing details, including moving the arm across, changing your angle, locking your legs, bringing your knees together, and controlling the head. Instead of forcing one submission, learn how to use your opponent’s reaction to move directly to the next attack.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
