The Way Has Been Lost | What Judo & Jiu-Jitsu Were Meant to Teach

From Gracie Allegiance Texas

October 15, 2026

The techniques remain. The belts remain. The traditions remain. But have we preserved the understanding behind them?

In this episode, we examine the historical foundations of Judo, the original purpose of the dojo, and the responsibility of those entrusted with teaching and preserving the Way.

From Jigoro Kano and the Kodokan to the principles of management, problem-solving, stewardship, and spiritual accountability, this teaching challenges us to look beyond rank and examine what our training is actually producing.

We also explore the importance of truth, tradition, and faithful transmission through the lens of the ancient Christian Church.

This is not simply about martial arts. It is about what we become through the disciplines we choose to practice.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
