Should You Think Less When You Roll?
The best jiu-jitsu can feel almost automatic. You stop thinking about techniques, stop forcing positions, and simply react to what’s happening.
But is that actually the goal?
In Stress Test #003, Nick Kugelman and Jacen Flynn put the idea “The less you think while rolling, the better you perform” to the test.
We get into flow state, instinct vs. conscious thought, what experienced grapplers actually pay attention to, why overthinking can slow you down, and whether coaches help or hurt when they give athletes answers during live rounds.
Do black belts think less? or have they just gotten better at recognizing the right information?
At the end, we decide: Kill it, Keep it, or Modify it.
