You've probably told yourself you'll start once you're in better shape. That's the thing keeping you out.
You don't get in shape and then start. You get in shape because you started — every class scales to the level you walk in with. And no, you are not going to get punched. Good gyms keep beginners on slow demonstrations and partner drilling with zero resistance. Day two is when your body goes stiff, and that soreness isn't an injury: it's DOMS, delayed onset muscle soreness, your body rebuilding in ways it isn't used to. Then there are the unwritten rules — no shoes on the mat, trim your nails, shower right after. That isn't fussy etiquette. It's infection control.
The hardest part of martial arts isn't surviving a hard workout. It's dropping your ego and walking through the door.
