Belly-Down Back Take From Mount | Trap the Hands & Finish the Choke

From Primate Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

August 14, 2026

The mount is already one of the most dominant pinning positions in grappling—but when your opponent turns to escape, you can make things even worse.

In this video, Coach Matt breaks down a brutal belly-down back take from mount that lets you maintain control, trap your opponent’s hands, and expose the neck for the finish.

The key isn’t just getting to the back. It’s controlling the transition so your opponent ends up flattened out with their hands trapped and very few options to defend the choke.

If you like pressure-heavy, control-first Jiu Jitsu, add this one to your game.

It's a mess, I know.

My goal is to build the most comprehensive BJJ encyclopedia anywhere — but good, accurate data is genuinely hard to come by. Records, gyms, belts and nationalities are pieced together from public and community sources, so some of it is incomplete, outdated, or flat-out wrong.

That's where you come in. If you spot something off, tell me and I'll fix it — every correction makes this better for everyone. This website wouldn't be possible without the community.
