You're listening to the simple man with Ethan Krell and Stan Niky Rod and Damian Anderson. Stay a while if you know about the Jiu-Jitsu. If you don't, you can come too. All right, guys, welcome back to another episode of The Simple Man podcast with your hosts, Anthony Salvador, Niky Rod, Damian Anderson, and Ethan Krell. What's going on? What's new? Quads. That's been on my mind. Quads. Quads. That's right. It's an impressive muscle. It's getting stronger. Did we not talk about it on the last podcast? I don't know. I feel like You guys went to Hidden Valley Ranch. Hidden No, no, no. Did we talk about Ranch? Ranch dressing, Hidden Valley. Hidden Falls Adventure Park. Yep. No, we we didn't talk about this yet. So, fucking awesome. Are you chewing into the mic, dude? This is delicious. Dude, Niky, get a hold of yourself. Come on. You got it. I'm eating it up. You're eating downstairs. Yeah. I haven't had my first meal of the day. This dude's always eating. This is always your first meal of the day. It's 4:00 p.m. Why didn't you eat? I'm at home from training and did fucking intervals on the assault bike and then came straight here. Oh, sick, really? That's fucking good. Oh, good shit. What were what were today's intervals? It was five rounds of five minutes as hard as you can. What? You did this too? With one minute break. Yeah. That's a tough one. Five rounds. So, five minutes hard as you can, one minute break, and then back on it. And then back on it. Dude, 30 minutes. Dude, that's brutal. 30 minutes, totally, yeah. That's That's fucking tough. Yeah. Is that harder than Chibatas? Chibata bread? Chibatas. It's different. Cuz this one it's just like never fucking ending. Like five minutes straight. Yeah, it's five minutes like as high of a pace as like as you can be. Um You should get a bike that you can see the wattage. So you can The assault bike has that, no? No, it's Well, mine's like the thing, I don't know. It doesn't like turn on, actually. Probably have to change the fucking change the batteries. Yeah. But right now, I'm just Yeah. Isn't it Doesn't it run on the No. Damn. It should. Sorry, Assault Fitness. But it's different than Tabatas. It's uh I do I also do like yeah, different intervals throughout the week. Dude, I remember doing Tabatas and thinking I was going to die. Put this back on here. Fucking um Put your money where your mouth is. Friday sucks too. Friday, it's 40-second sprint, like as hard as you fucking can for 40 seconds, then 20-second rest, and you do 10 rounds of it. Oh, we had a tough Friday one. Dude, we had a tough like two weeks straight. You guys have been killing it. Really really inspiring. It's hard. Cardio sessions are insane. It's brutal because you want to keep the pace of whoever's next to you, and you really want to win. That's the goal. And it just hurts. There's no getting used to it, too. Every time we're all improving little by little, so it's like it never you're never able to coast. What what just happened? Was it on Friday that we did the uh We did the Adjust the Bike. Yeah. Or two days ago. Was it Monday? Oh, yeah, it was Monday. Oh, it was Monday. Then I wrestled. Oh my god, that day was rough. Dude, so Monday, what did we do? We did We did stationary bike, actually. We did stationary bike. 20-second sprint, 40-second rest for what? For 20 20 rounds, 20 minutes. But the 40-second rest is like the goal is to get as many calories as possible at the end of the 20 minutes. So, like you're not really resting for the 40 seconds. You're just you're just coasting a little bit. And then 20 seconds goes on, so then you sprint. And then the coast is like you're trying to keep a high coast. And then Liam actually came pretty close to beating me. You killed it in that one. I came close to Niky Rod on that one, bro. It was fucking Damn. Did you? I was I was closer to Niky Rod than I was to you guys. Uh I don't think so. Reach for the stars. What was Liam did well. Liam did well. I did I did really well, bro. That's what he's saying. I did really well. I think uh Yes, so the stationary bike is my worst one, actually. I didn't realize. I realized it was my best one. I thought it was going to be my worst. Stationary bike's easier than assault, though, right? Harder. Way harder. Supposedly. I do better on the assault bike. It's the man's instrument. All right, here here's the thing, too, though. This is the thing is that we had our resistance level at like six or seven. I started there. He he brought it down to five or four. It equates with the calories. I just burn less calories. But we're we're getting more of a pump in our legs. My legs are pretty pumped up. So, I I'd say that he cheated, but then I still won the second time. So, I I won the second time. What are you talking about? On the five? You lost. You came in last. No. And then I beat Liam. You and I got I I beat Liam by two. I beat Liam by 1.5. I I came in not including Niky Rod, I came in first. You can't For the second one. The reason he he wanted to do the uh the second one. The second one is because he almost beat me. Is it Hey, you're on the podcast. Uh Ethan is saying that that he came in first for the second five-minute sprint in the stationary bike. I think it was a tie between me and him. We both got 94, and you beat both of us by one calorie. Okay. Okay, thank you. Just wanted to I'll accept that. Just wanted to uh make sure that But the first the first one, the 20-minute one. Tell us about that. Yeah. He lost signal. He's going through a tunnel. He's sitting at home on the couch. Uh it was fucking insane. Yeah, it's insane. But we're we're jumping across uh How how has it translated to Jiu-Jitsu? Mental. That's it. Makes you smarter. Grows your skull. Have you felt like I don't get tired anymore or is that I kinda I feel like yes. I feel like yes. I have uh For sure. Like it's constantly improving your gas tank. Yeah. And I think your gas tank comes and goes faster than like your strength or your timing or something like that. That shit will But I just think this. I don't know. I don't know the truth. How does it feel? Like It feels good. It feels great. You're going to be in better shape. And also, it's like you're more comfortable being exhausted and you can push yourself harder in my opinion. Yeah. Um and also it improves uh well, the other cardio we're doing was ATVing for seven hours straight across the desert. That's not cardio. Dude, it's like I think it's in uh he's just he's just grinding out. That's not cardio. Fine. Rage bait. Uh Bro, seven hours in Hidden Falls Adventure Park. Is that what it's called? Yep, Hidden Falls Adventure Park. Dude, what what an adventure. What an adventure that was. We So, I used Niky Rod's I don't know what the brand the older one is. Uh Yamaha. That's a Yamaha? Honda. Suzuki? Mitsubishi. Nah, it might be it might be a Suzuki. One of those things. And uh anyway, it was so fucking fun. We're like ripping around seven hours straight. Uh they lost me. I don't know how exactly, but Yeah, bro. Seven hours is is insane. Non-stop. Yeah. People go there and like they'll ride for like an hour and then they take, you know, a break or whatever. You didn't like stop, have lunch? You didn't We took We stopped and got Coca-Colas from a vending machine. Yeah, it was going. Nice. Yeah, we just we were riding for like three and a half hours. Then we got we needed some sugar and water, so we stopped by the store and The general store, it's called. Yeah, in on the park. It's 3,200 acres of land and there's like 600 plus miles of trails to take. It's uh you have to pay? Yeah, but it's like $30. For the day? For the day. Nothing. Yeah, 30 bucks. Make that in one day. I do. Chump change. So, we were easy money. We stopped to get a Coke, some Gatorade, some water, and we got back on and just started it's like imagine doing a mild jog, maybe a little bit faster of a jog. For seven hours. But it's so fun for seven hours. You're burning so many calories. My thumb was exhausted. I didn't get that fatigued. Yeah, I got that. I got thumb I got thumb fatigue. Sick of these things, bro. How Yeah, like halfway through, I'm like, "Damn, bro, how are they fucking just repping this thumb thing?" What'd you do? What do you mean, what'd I do? To to counteract it. I just like every now and then we'd like kind of stop for a sec or if there was a straightaway, I would just go like this and just gun it. Cerebral palsy. And it's terrible cuz you have no like this is not a very accurate movement compared to this, so Well, technically, this should be more accurate than this. No, this this you can dial in exactly how much pressure versus But this, don't you have way more muscle? No, you're theoretically you're bumping on that thing. You're I'm like What gear were you guys cruising in the most? Like fourth? First. No, no, second and third. Second and third. Oh, really? Yeah, yeah. Cuz it's like there's some straightaways where you can use fourth, but a lot of it's windy turns. It might be up up some rocks, so you might even have to put it into first to climb up this thing. And then you're ripping it through the the woods. There's some I forget, is it better to be in first when you're going uphill? Yeah, yeah. Even though it requires more power. Well, that's because Well, that's more torque. Yeah, yeah. So, That's why you So, first you would want to put it in first as opposed to fourth. Yeah, yeah. You know, on a regular bicycle, if you're going uphill, you have to go to like a a lower gear, so you can pedal faster. You can pedal faster, but you're moving a little slower up the hill. Versus downhill, you want to go to higher gear, so you could like pedal slow, but you're ripping it down the hill cuz there's no resistance. The same thing. I see. Yeah, yeah. The same thing with the quad. But on a quad, it it it seems like it would require more power to go up. That first gear is is more power. I would say it's more power per rotation. I'm not the I'm not the expert in this. Got you. I see. I see. Yeah, it's like a big it's like a bigger gear, so like it has a lot of torque, more of a lever. I see. I see. Yeah, yeah. Angular momentum. Uh-huh. I don't know. Anyway, it was so You know what happens if you put it in first gear and you like get to the point where you're you're supposed to change to the next gear and you just don't. You'll overheat your engine, right? Like RPMs. I mean, you're not going to Obviously, it's not good for it, but I don't know why it's not good for it. I I mean, I don't actually know the like Yeah. Maybe this is boring, but it's like you're just ripping it. You know, you have no more power. I think it's There's like a power curve, you know, it's like it speeds up and then it's just Yeah, your RPMs are going to You know, on the on your car, there's like a little red thing like 1,000, 2,000, 6,000 RPMs and you're doing that. Yeah, yeah. And then boom, now you're switching. You're ripping it at one gear. Yeah, yeah. First gear. So then it like jumps down. Um yeah, and they they lost me. So, they're on faster quads. I'm like trying to keep up. It's a little bumpy. I have to I can't just rip through these bumps. Also, it's kind of dry, too. So, it's like when we're riding, it's kicking up some dirt. Oh, yeah. Did you you had helmet? Like a goggles? Yeah, yeah. Uh goggles, helmet. And uh so, they start to pull away. So, I'm like following the cloud of dust that they leave behind. They literally left me in the dust. Eat my dust. Eat my dust, they did. So, they pull away, and I'm like, "Okay, if I just I see a cloud of dust, I'll like go there. I see a turn. I'm like, okay, cloud of dust here. I go." And then little by little, this cloud of dust starts to dissipate. I'm like, then there's a cloud of dust on both on a fork in the trail. And I'm like, "I'll go that way." And I go, and then no more dust. I'm like, "I don't know where to go." So, I like keep going for a little bit. And uh then I'm like, I'm going for a while. And I'm like, there are a few times where I like took this turn instead of that turn. And I don't know, it was all one So, it all led to one exit. So, basically, there's like a main road that goes through the uh the camp, we can call it. Like the the adventure park. There's a main road. Then there's Yeah, A to B. Then on either side, there's hundreds of different trails that you can take. But they're one-way trails. So, we're on the main road. Niky Rod rips it down one trail. And he's riding fast. Like he knows how to ride. And this one is like it's through the woods where with a bunch of S-turns. So, he's going fast. So, I'm ripping it fast. And it's a one-way. We're going for about like five minutes in what feels like five minutes. Five Probably a lot longer than five. I don't think it was cuz we walked the trail back, is the thing. It's like five minutes on a quad, you're going pretty far. You know. You walked the trail back to try to find Ethan. So, eventually, we get to a point where there's like a ledge, and Niky Rod rips it off the ledge. And I go off the ledge. And then we look behind and I was like, "Oh, I don't think Ethan should do this." So, we're kind of waiting. Oh, that's what Okay. And then we're waiting. It wasn't for the ledge that you could I mean, I'm just keeping up with Niky Rod. I'm not looking behind me at all, which I should have. That's my fault. Yeah, fuck you. So, I stop or we stop, we turn our engines off. And we don't hear anything. Imagine That's exactly when I turned my engine off. That'd be so funny. Just crickets. So, we're like, you know, since it's one-way and you go fast, you're going like, you know, maybe 40 miles an hour through this thing. It's like, we don't want to ride the quads in the opposite direction. So, we're like, all right, let's go for a walk. I'm assuming that there's like a point where like maybe he's stuck in the mud or you had to uh climb some uh some rocks and you got he stalled out or something. So, we're walking. We don't see him. We're yelling for Ethan. We don't hear anything. And we also yelling at him. We walk all the way back. And we get back to the main road. And we're like, Ethan's nowhere to be found. And at this point, when we were walking, we were walking for a good like 20 minutes going towards the main road. And I was like, imagining I was being positive with Niky Rod. Just like, oh, this guy's, you know, stalled out or whatever. Ethan, he stalled out. What the hell? But in my head, I was like, what if he flew off the trail and there is a flipped quad? And then I was imagining, I'm just my body's like in a tree. And I was imagining, actually, Niky Niky being like, "You guys are fucking retarded. I can't believe you guys got hurt." I was like, "No one's going to have sympathy for us." No, of course not. Everyone that we C4 and big plates. Ah, C4 and heavyweights. And explosive traits. And some impressive rates. Strong like primates. You'll say, "Ah, great" when you deadlift dominates. Was that good? No. It was incredible. Really bad. No. But this? This is good. Are you feeling stuck? Most guys just accept feeling stuck. Stress, low energy, bad sleep like it's normal. But it's not. So, stop feeling stuck. Fix the root issues and start living like you used to. Everyone that saw us like get quads, they were like, "Dude, be fucking careful." Yeah, yeah. It's safety first, guys. Right, right. And I'm like, "Fucking Ethan." Ethan ruined it. That's going to ruin it. So, my perspective, I'm just You guys walked the trail and then you go back and you keep ripping it. We we it takes about about an hour for us to walk the trail and go back. Pretty much. During that entire hour, I was just like, "Well, I'm lost." I was just going. I was like, I finally like uh the main road, I guess. And I'm just like, like fucking ripping it. And no phones, right? I didn't bring my phone. Okay, this is another story. We're we ride for three and a half hours, right? We get we refuel. We go back to the truck even to to To refuel. To oh, to actually refuel. So, we refuel our bodies. We have to refuel the ATVs as well. So, we go to the truck to get gas. I have my phone on me. Niky Rod has his phone on him. I'm like, "Ethan, you should grab your phone." And he was like, "Nah." I don't want to lose it. Leave it in the truck. Then the second half of the of the ride, that's when he gets fucking lost. So, then I get lost. I was And I remember Damian being like, "Are you bringing your phone?" I'm like, "Nah." I remember throwing it in the car, closing the door. So, I'm fucking ripping around, having a blast. I'm like, whatever, they'll hopefully I'm no, I am thinking like, I hope they don't think I'm dead cuz that would ruin their experience. I would hope, you know. Right. At what point did you give up and say he's probably fine? We never gave up. You think me and Niky Rod are giving up? We never gave up. So, I fucking I'm ripping around, having a blast, hoping they're also just having fun. And I like rode by road, I make my way back to the general store first, and then where we parked. And I'm the truck's locked. So, I like look in the window. I'm like, "Oh, there's my phone." You should have left. Fuck. "Hey, guys, I'm okay, but Niky Rod's phone broke the truck." So, I get there and I'm like, "Okay, maybe they'll come back here. I'll wait." So, I have like uh I crack open a Waterloo. We have a cooler, Waterloo. I ate a bag of chips. I'm like, "Let me just stay here for a little bit. If they don't come back here in time, I'll like leave a note somehow." So, I'm like, I'm there looking for how to leave a note for these guys. Just to be like, guys, I made it. Just fucking we'll meet back here later. I try writing a note in the sticks in in the ground. Like, I'm like, "Ah, they're not going to fucking see this." I swear. I'm like taking pieces of bark and sticks. And I'm like, "This is dumb. They're not going to fucking see this shit. What do I do?" So, the car's coated in dust. So, I write on the car like, I made it back. See you guys soon. You see the picture of that? No, no, let me see. It's fucking awesome. It's on Instagram. So, so I I leave So, I leave that note. And then I'm like, "All right, well, time to go back out there." Yeah, yeah. Made it back. See you here, Simple Man. Something like that. Simple Man. See you soon, Simple Man. Made it back. See you here, Simple Man. Yes. So, I'm like, "Let me just leave this, so if they come back here, one of them will be like, 'Oh, Ethan was here. Okay, we're good.'" So, now let me take over now. So, now, he does that. He goes riding around again. We, after getting back to our quads, we have to make it back to the truck. So, we have to finish out whatever trail we're on, whatever, and go back to the truck. Now, there's a main road. So, think about like a main road like this. And the truck is here and we're over here. There's a little trail that you can take that goes back to the truck. But it's kind of like a little offshoot. So, we were going straight towards the truck. At the last second, Niky Rod just decides to make a quick left turn to take a quick trail to go to the truck. And it's it's uphill. Yeah, yeah. So, as Niky Rod's going up the hill, you see he was wearing a pink helmet. So, you see a a pink helmet and the yellow quad. Wow. And then you just see Niky Rod go. We just start screaming. Let's go! It was so fucking awesome, bro. That the reuniting was the highlight of the whole thing. Like, what are the odds? We were like, we would have just passed right by each other. Yeah, we were cuz we were we're like, we got to get back to the truck. So, we were ripping it down the main road, trying to get back to the truck. And then at the last second, he decides to take this decides to turn into this last minute trail. Yeah, yeah. Wow. And then we just start screaming. Let's go! So, how long in total were you lost for? Over an hour. Yeah, well over an hour. But I was I was having a blast, bro. I was just like And they were panicking. We were walking. It sucks, dude. Yeah, yeah. Wait, you walked a whole trail? You walked 30 minutes and then 30 minutes back. There and then they go back. So, they spent an hour looking for you, bro. Just walking. And then we had to go to Then as soon as we got back to the quads, we had we just decided to go back to the truck. There was never like, let's try to find him. It was like, we walked the trail. We walked back. Go to the truck. Yeah, yeah. But it took that long. I knew you were going to go to the truck. It took that long. A part of me wishes they went to the truck and saw the note. And one of them was like, "Oh, bro, he left a note." I doubt they would have seen the note. You think so? It's right next to Niky Rod's It's it's on the Yeah, maybe. I don't know. Like if they just opened the back. If they just go around the truck, like there it's right there. True, true. Yeah, yeah. Sure, write it on every window. It was fucking awesome. So sick. You know in The Hangover when they lose uh who'd they lose? Doug. Doug. That's me. I was Doug. It was amazing. So fun. Such a great such a great uh highlight to the trip. Then we fucking then we get Chipotle. We get bubble tea and shit. And the bubble tea. So, do you know Do you guys It's some of the hardest I've ever laughed in my life. It was a great day. It was just an awesome day. You guys remember Do you guys know like if you take bubbles from the bubble tea and you shoot it out the straw? You guys ever hear this noise? No, I know. No. Me neither. It's Oh, it's hilarious. It's like a cartoon. It looks like a fucking cartoon. So, I tell the guys, like, "Listen, um if you blow the bubbles out through the straw, it makes a funny noise." Into into the drink or out? No, just Yeah, you take the bubbles in your mouth. And you go and you it's like, I'll show you. So, Niky Rod hears this, doesn't give a shit. He's like, "Okay, funny noise. I'm too cool for that. Fuck you." Right. I'm like, "What do you mean?" I'm intrigued. Yes. So, like, "Go on." A funny noise, you say? So, wait, before before you play it, before you play it. So, I'm like, a funny noise, you say? Enlighten me. So, he's like, "Do it." Okay, so I just like blow it out there. He's like, "Yeah, just fucking blow out some of the the boba things." Yeah, the boba. You're outside, obviously. Not Yes, yes, absolutely. No, at the worker. In the restaurant. It's What do you mean? Okay, so I do it. It just makes like a But he sucks up tea as well. I I didn't he didn't specify only the only boba. So, I just blow out a tea and boba mixture. And it just goes and I'm like, "What do you that sucked." He's like, "Bro, what the fuck was that?" And that was not funny. He goes, "Bro, what the fuck was that?" I'm like, "Well, you do it." He's like, "I'll handle this." And he does it. And it makes this noise. So, so he does that. It sounds like that. And I'm like, "Oh, I understand." Yeah, I see why mine got fucked. Like, it all it all clicked in one shot. And I'm like, I was just fucking dying, bro. I was just crying and laughing like Dude, it was a great day. Cuz we got great exercise out in the out in the wilderness. We got some Chipotle after. There's an adventure out there. Do you do you feel like you need gloves or boots or anything? Or is it Yeah, yeah. Like like specific gloves and boots or Well, I use like the uh just normal like work gloves, but I I have motocross gloves. What are the gloves? Why why gloves? You want to get You get blisters. Yeah, you'll you'll get blisters. Not me. No, you also you want to you want to be the least uncomfortable as possible, so you could just have fun. You're there for seven hours. That's what I would I wouldn't want gloves and No, you do. Your hands would feel so raw. Yeah, yeah, my my hands were fine for a while. Yeah. They'll feel so raw. Yes. Yeah. And then I mean, I don't have like motocross boots, but like you should get boots cuz For sure. There's going to be like water and mud. It it goes all over. Rocks. Bro, honestly, I didn't want to show you your helmet. I watched your helmet. I don't care, bro. I don't care at all. Show me it. I don't fucking care. Ask me if I care. It's just my favorite helmet. Yeah. I wonder actually if Oh, I didn't take a picture of it. My grandpa passed down to me from the war. I wanted to get like an SS He was shot in the in the face. Oh, never mind. There was no there was no picture. He was shot in the helmet. You're going to get an SS helmet? Yeah, I was thinking it'd be funny to show up with like that SS commander with the fucking and the goggles. Or then I'm like a knight's helmet. Oh, a knight's helmet. All right, guys, you ready? There's just like the the cross slit of Oh, bro, jousting on quads. That's It'd be it sounds funny, but it would be terrible. I I wouldn't want to do that. But yeah, yeah, you want some uh gloves. So, we're all going to go again soon. Yeah. All right, I'll get gloves. You can your quad go for that like on that? For jousting? No, not for jousting. For what? No, I would want a heftier steed for jousting. You need a heftier No, no, you need um I got to try it first before I'm like, I need a new. You want to try it now? Get a new quad. Get a faster.
