Your health is like a credit card.. You can definitely put things onto your credit card once in a while. You can even use a credit card to help bridge the gap when you're short on funds. But sooner or later you need to pay it off. But if you keep on making withdrawals against your card without ever putting money back into it then you're going to end up in serious trouble. Your health is the same way. You can't borrow against it indefinitely. If you keep asking your body to push hard without giving it the time and support to recover then things are eventually going to go catastrophically wrong. After beating the crap out of your body you need to balance the books by giving it the opportunity to recover. Hard training without quality recovery is a recipe for disaster, so recovery is a skill you need to master as well. Virtual Students Test Material

The next test for online students is going to cover: - the Americana from mount - the arm bar from when our opponent defends the Americana - the arm bar from mount when our opponent tried to push us off - the arm bar from the guard Things to remember about the Americana: - use 2-on-1 and your weight to anchor their top side arm to the ground - you want their elbow belt at least 90 degrees with their hand pointing up in the same direction as the top of their head - when we drag their wrists back towards our knee, we want to keep the wrist on the ground the whole time. A paintbrush doesn’t paint unless it stays on the paper! Things to remember on the arm bar: - Our leg on the side of the arm we are attacking is the one that goes over the head. This is called the cross face leg. - once we get our cross face leg over, we pull our heel back to trap the head between our upper and lower leg - our body should be up against the back of their arm - we want to hold our opponents wrist tight to our back shoulder/chest with the thumb side facing up - our hips will push up through the back (point) of the elbow in order to stretch it the wrong way

This week, Steve and Matt dive into knee on belly and break down the position using the mental models we discuss on the show. Uke's predictable responses from knee on belly: - Getting to their side - either turning toward or away from you- Attacking your feet- Getting their foot on your hip or inverting into a leg entanglement Critical control points for knee on belly: - Maintaining good foot position. No gaps between your shoelaces and their hip. Don't let them grab your legs, especially the free leg.- Keeping a lower squat, ideally an elbow-knee connection, to close access to your hip and leg.- Keeping their shoulders parallel to the floor. **Mental models discussed in this episode:** - Predictable Responses [https://bjjmentalmodels.com/predictable-responses/](https://bjjmentalmodels.com/predictable-responses/)- Elbow Knee Connection [https://bjjmentalmodels.com/elbow-knee-connection/](https://bjjmentalmodels.com/elbow-knee-connection/)- Center of Gravity [https://bjjmentalmodels.com/center-of-gravity/](https://bjjmentalmodels.com/center-of-gravity/)- Surface Area (or Blading) [https://bjjmentalmodels.com/surface-area/](https://bjjmentalmodels.com/surface-area/)- Critical Control Points [https://bjjmentalmodels.com/critical-control-points/](https://bjjmentalmodels.com/critical-control-points/) **IMPORTANT: BJJ Mental Models needs your help.** In light of the COVID-19 outbreak, the future for Steve and Matt is uncertain.
