The next test for online students is going to cover:
- the Americana from mount
- the arm bar from when our opponent defends the Americana
- the arm bar from mount when our opponent tried to push us off
- the arm bar from the guard
Things to remember about the Americana:
- use 2-on-1 and your weight to anchor their top side arm to the ground
- you want their elbow belt at least 90 degrees with their hand pointing up in the same direction as the top of their head
- when we drag their wrists back towards our knee, we want to keep the wrist on the ground the whole time. A paintbrush doesn’t paint unless it stays on the paper!
Things to remember on the arm bar:
- Our leg on the side of the arm we are attacking is the one that goes over the head. This is called the cross face leg.
- once we get our cross face leg over, we pull our heel back to trap the head between our upper and lower leg
- our body should be up against the back of their arm
- we want to hold our opponents wrist tight to our back shoulder/chest with the thumb side facing up
- our hips will push up through the back (point) of the elbow in order to stretch it the wrong way
