## Bio

A Manaus native who started jiu-jitsu at seventeen after a classmate’s gi caught his eye, Alex Martins earned his black belt under Junior Cardoso in December 2006 before moving to Mestre Pina’s camp a year later. He first traveled to the United States in 2012 to compete at the IBJJF Pan American Championship, then stayed in McAllen, Texas at the invitation of old teammate Diego Ferreira. That trip led to a permanent move and eventually to Martins buying and building his own respected grappling facility in the region.
