**Date of Birth:** November 20, 1991 (age 34)

## Bio

Fabio Alano’s path to BJJ was anything but direct — a former semi-professional basketball player and three-time World Olympic Hapkido Federation champion who only started jiu-jitsu at 21 to shore up his ground game for hapkido. Spotted training at a friend’s gym, he was taken in on scholarship by Alliance Porto Alegre under Mario Reis, eventually living at the academy from white to black belt. His breakout came in 2014 when he won the UAEJJ World Pro as a white belt in both weight and absolute, then won the World Championship twenty days later as a brand-new blue belt. A brown belt Grand Slam bid in 2018 fell just short at the Worlds, but he earned his black belt in 2019 after competing on a severe knee injury at that year’s World Championship.
