**Name:** Gastão Gracie


## Bio

The middle brother of the Gracie first generation, Gastão Gracie was the least competitive yet most amicable of the five, making him a favorite among students at the original Academia Gracie after Carlos opened it in 1925. He learned Jiu-Jitsu from Carlos, not directly from Maeda, and spent five years teaching at the Rio academy while working part-time jobs to keep the gym afloat. A mystical man who believed he could see auras and heal through hypnosis, Gastão was also famously anti-Catholic after a bad experience with a priest. He later moved to São Paulo permanently, coaching private clients including Congressman Ademar Barros and teaching at the Officer’s School.
