Jessica Caroline discovered jiu-jitsu at 17 through a women-only class in Bangú, Rio de Janeiro, training under Wendel Duarte before gravitating to Alessandro Nunes’ competition class in Niteroi — a two-hour commute each way that she made daily, often spending 12 hours on the mats. She committed fully to Nunes’ team in 2014, training alongside Brenda Heller and Rudson Mateus, and her relationship with her instructor deepened into marriage. As a brown belt in 2019, Caroline captured both the World and Pan Jiu-Jitsu titles, earning her black belt from Alessandro Nunes that September.
