Jonas Andrade came up through the Cicero Costha (PSLPB) lineage under Murilo Santana, earning his black belt in June 2019 from both masters after a standout brown belt run. A Fortaleza native who initially mocked jiu-jitsu as “unmanly” before being demolished on the mats by friends, he moved to São Paulo at 17 to live in Costha’s fighter house and quickly became a major colored belt competitor on the international circuit. His connection with Unity Jiu-Jitsu Academy in New York gave him a second competitive home, and his aggressive, pressure-based guard passing defined his rise through the ranks.
