## Bio

Jonatas Novaes, a black belt under Eduardo Jamelão from the Alliance lineage, built his reputation on a punishing flat half-guard game that he later systematized for a global audience. Born in the beach town of Conceição da Barra, Espírito Santo, he came to jiu-jitsu through his older brother and local instructor Adezil Souto before joining Jamelão’s squad, where he earned his black belt in 2006. That same year he debuted in MMA, a career that took him to the United States in 2008. After training under Rodrigo Comprido and Robert Drysdale, he coached at Paragon Academy in California before founding Channel Islands BJJ in 2019.
