Began training BJJ and MMA in the Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton in 2001. Trained at Three Rivers Martial Arts Academy (Royce Gracie school) in Paducah, KY, receiving blue belt from Royce Gracie and purple belt from Rodrigo Gracie. Moved to Denver in 2008, earning brown belt in 2008 and black belt in 2011 under Professor Mario Correa. Also trains Muay Thai under UFC veteran Duane 'Bang' Ludwig.
