A surfing champion as a child, Leonardo Ferreira didn't step on the mats until age 10, when his older brother Tiago dragged him to a Thomas Seade class at an Alliance Academy affiliate in Tramandai, Rio Grande do Sul. His competitive talent emerged at juvenile blue belt, prompting a transfer to head coach Mario Reis’ main squad, where he developed into one of the sport's most hyped prospects. Ferreira earned his black belt in May 2024, capping his brown belt run with a double-gold performance at the World Championship.
