A feared light-featherweight competitor on the USA East Coast, Malachi Edmond cut his teeth at Lloyd Irvin’s Martial Arts Academy, joining the kids’ program at age five after his grandmother answered his Power Rangers-fueled interest in martial arts. He narrowed his focus solely to jiu-jitsu at seven under coach Donnie Achnick, and by blue belt he had committed to BJJ as a career, racking up medals across top regional competitions. Promoted to black belt in June 2019 by team leader Lloyd Irvin, Edmond’s relentless pace and pressure made him a standout in the division.
