From a São Bernardo do Campo social project that offered skateboarding, parkour, and theatre, Marcos Martins found jiu-jitsu at age 12 under Anderson de Oliveira, later moving to a CIA Paulista affiliate where Fernando Silva awarded his blue belt. Chasing a tournament career, he joined Barbosa Jiu-Jitsu (B9) under Diego Martins and head coach Marco Barbosa, relocating to São Paulo at 18. Repeated visa denials kept him from IBJJF World titles despite dominating the national colored belt scene. Barbosa promoted him to black belt in December 2018 with Diego Martins’ blessing.
